Senior Portraits Tampa

I've been photographing a lot of Tampa Bay Seniors lately for my Senior Model Program.  Each model was photographed in a different location and using slightly different styles.  Let's start off with Justine:

Justine is from Northeast High School.  We chose downtown St. Petersburg for her session because she thinks of herself as both a city girl and a country girl.  Downtown St. Pete offers a little of both!

I started off in a favorite alley.  All photographers love a good alley!  It's always funny the way people will look at you when you are in some dirty back alley taking pictures.  I used off-camera lighting the entire day (I'm addicted to off-camera light).  This particular image was de-saturated a bit and curves-adjusted to maximize the contrast.  Justine really looks older in this one.

Tampa Bay Senior Portraits

It's that time again!

School's about to start and it's time for Senior Pictures.  Not only is it time for the Seniors to get their sessions booked, it's also time for the Juniors to sign on and become Senior Models for Booray Perry Photography. (Click here for more details)

The Senior Model Program is open to incoming Juniors, male and female.  We accept applicants from all schools.  If you are accepted into the program you receive a free session and 100 "411" cards with your pictures and our studio info.  Then all you have to do is pass them out to your friends!  Every card that comes back with a session earns you $50 credit toward your own senior pictures and products.

The sooner you sign up the better your chances of being selected since we limit the number of models per school.

Senior pictures with Brooke

I had a great session last week with Tampa senior Brooke. It's always a plus when the model brings along a couple of clothing changes because it allows me to capture a much wider variety of moods and styles. Brooke was wonderful and we spent two hours taking pictures at University of Tampa. For more senior pictures go to my website.

Senior Portrait Session - University of Tampa

I recently had a portrait session with a senior at the Univesity of Tampa. The funny thing about this session was that we didn't shoot it at the University of Tampa, despite the fact that he's graduating from there. I shoot senior portraits at University of Tampa all the time with clients who don't go to school there but when I get an actual student I take him off campus. :)

William plays piano so I suggested we go someplace with a nice baby grand. The great thing about this particular venue is that there's this awsome foyer with the piano and all, and right outside there's a lake and pine tree's. So, I'm able to get two totally different types of shots in one spot.

Senior Portraits Tampa Bay

For more pictures of Tampa Bay Seniors, visit my website at www.boorayperry.com.

Kaitlin called me in a panic last week because she had somehow managed to miss both picture days at school. I was able to do a rush session for her that turned out great despite having very little time..

We rushed to the nearest railroad tracks and shot for 30 minutes. You can never go wrong with girls + railroad tracks. This is my favorite picture from the shoot. Kaitlin is 15 years old and looks older in this shot. It's like seeing the future.

This shot is a good example of why so many photographers don't have studio space anymore. With the right equipment and skill you can get great lighting and composition on location with the added benefit of using a real tree instead of a prop.

This is called the "Lomo" effect. The Lomo camera is an old Russion-made camera that became famous for the way it would saturate and vignette images. Now, photographers can duplicate that look in Photoshop.

This is a "senior card" that I custom designed for Kaitlin.

Tampa Senior Portraits

I've been so busy lately with our latest mimi-beach session that I haven't had time to write about the senior portrait session I had with Salisha. She was just wonderful the whole time and we got so many images it took her and her mom over an hour to decide on which ones they liked best. Below are my personal favorites as well as a special print I created for her graduation:

It was one of the most productive senior portrait sessions I have ever had!

Booray Perry is a senior portrait photographer in Tampa, St. Pete and Clearwater.

Land O' Lakes photographer gets the big head

I had something pretty cool happen today. If you're a photographer, you're always a little insecure because all art is subjective. Most of us are in the business because we want to create something with emotion or beauty or both... and so we frequently are trolling for a compliment... just a little validation from someone so that we know we aren't producing terrible work. It's especially nice when it comes from someone unexpected.

I had to call my lab today because I was having some trouble uploading an order (Surprise! My fault!). I mentioned that I was in Tampa and she asked me what my studio was called. I told her my name and she said, "Oh my God! I love you! Your work is awesome!"

Now, there is no way that the girl who answers the phones at my lab could possibly know who I am so I called her on it. "You're just blowin' smoke," I said, "You don't know who I am."

"Yes I do," she said, "I audit the print runs all the time and I love your designs."

"They tell you to say that to every photographer who calls, right?"

"No, I really do love your designs. You just recently had a coupon done with a little girl holding a present..."

It's funny, I get compliments all the time (well, maybe not all the time) about my work but it really made my day to hear that a girl who looks at prints all day long remembers mine. So, I'm writing this post about it and the next time I get a little down, I'll just come read this. :)

Tampa Senior Portraits - Katie

I recently had the priviledge of photographing Katie, a senior at Gaither High School. Senior portraits are a lot of fun and Katie was no exception.
